Message from EDSI President Guido Orzes
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We often realize the real value of things only when we lose them. This was the case – at least for me – for the participation to scientific conferences in presence. After (almost) two years of online meetings, teaching, and conferences, we finally started to travel again and to attend international conferences. And we were all really excited to be in Dublin for EDSI 2022 a few weeks ago!
I am really humbled and honored to start my term as EDSI President and I am looking forward to contribute to the growth and development of our association in cooperation with the EDSI Board. Beyond me, the board is composed by: PJ Byrne – Dublin City University (Ireland) as President-Elect, Gyula Vastag – Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary) as Immediate Past-President, Bart MacCarthy – Nottingham University (UK) DSI VP for Europe, Mihalis Giannakis – Audencia Business School (France) as Treasurer, Melek Akın Ateş – Sabanci University (Turkey) as Secretary General, Sabine Baumann – Jade University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Carmela Di Mauro – University of Catania (Italy), Markku Kuula – Aalto University (Finland), Marco Sartor – University of Udine (Italy), and Ou Tang – Linköping University (Sweden) as board members. In addition, Professor V. (Sri) Sridharan from Clemson University serves as a Regional Advisor to the EDSI board with a special responsibility to promote EDSI in the USA.
EDSI, the European Division of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), is a non-profit professional organization of European researchers, managers, educators, and students interested in decision-making techniques and processes in private and public organizations. It aims to promote and disseminate multidisciplinary rigorous and relevant research about business decisions in the European context (in a wide variety of fields, including but not limited to operations and supply chains, marketing, and finance). EDSI has organized an annual conference every year since its foundation: in Barcelona (Spain) in 2010, in Wiesbaden/Frankfurt (Germany) in 2011, in Istanbul (Turkey) in 2012, in Budapest (Hungary) in 2013, in Kolding (Denmark)in 2014, in Taormina (Italy) in 2015, in Helsinki (Finland) in 2016, in Granada (Spain) in 2017, in Udine & Venice (Italy) in 2018, in Nottingham (United Kingdom) in 2019, in Lund Sweden (online) in 2021, and in Dublin (Ireland) in 2022.
European countries are currently facing some unprecedented challenges related to the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plans, the shortage of (key) materials in many sectors, the green transition, and the Ukraine war, just to mention a few. Our academic EDSI community is therefore called
to support companies and policy makers in addressing these challenges.
I kindly invite you to register or renew your DSI membership (when it expires) at this link and select the affiliation to the European region. The next EDSI conference will be in June 2023 in Nantes (France), chaired by Mihalis Giannakis.
On behalf of the whole EDSI Board, I wish you all a very happy summer and look forward to meeting you.
Guido Orzes
EDSI President 2022-2023
